The winding faux cable pattern resembles tracks in the sand from sidewinder snakes. The pattern looks difficult but is achieved with just knits, purls, k2togethers and yarn-over stitches.

This pattern creates a sturdy, warm cowl that can also be plopped on your head for an earwarmer/almost hat!
The winding faux cable pattern resembles tracks in the sand from sidewinder snakes. The pattern looks difficult but is achieved with just knits, purls, k2togethers and yarn-over stitches.
Materials: About 80-100 yds [73-92 m] of bulky yarn.
Yarn Details: A 2-ply or 3-ply yarn using next-to-the-skin-preferred soft wools such as merino or bluefaced leicester. Approximately 7-8 wpi, about 500 ypp.
Needles: Size 11US [8mm] DPNs or circulars to suit (16” [40 cm] circular recommended).
Gauge: 3-3.5 stitches per inch [2.54 cm] in stockinette stitch – not terribly important, but a different gauge may change your yardage requirements
Finished Size: 18” [46 cm]circumference; 7.5” [19 cm] tall.
Other: tapestry needle for darning.
