a recipe for socks in all sizes knitting patternThere are 13 sizes available in the full pattern, from kids to giants, enough to make a pair for all the feet you know.
The socks are knit top-down with a heel flap and gussets. 

These numbers will make a women’s size medium sock, size 7-8 shoe, with a 8″ [24.5 cm] leg circumference and a 9.5″ [24 cm] footlength.

Yarn : fingering-weight sock yarn
Average needle size : US1 [2.25 mm] circulars or DPNs to suit your preferred method of knitting in the rnd.
Gauge : 8 sts and 12 rows to 1-inch square [2.5 cm square].

Pattern

Cast on 64 sts.  Join to knit in a rnd, being careful to not twist sts. PM for beginning of rnd.

CUFF RIBBING
Work in ribbing as follows for 3.25″ [8.3 cm]:   K1 [p2, k2] around to last 3 sts, p2, k1.
After ribbing,  purl 1 rnd, knit 2 rnds, purl 1 rnd.
Continue knitting every rnd until leg measures 6.25″ [16 cm] from cast-on edge.

HEEL FLAP
Heel flap is worked over first 32 sts.
Place instep sts on spare needle or yarn. Work heel flap as follows: [Sl1, k1] across heel flap sts.
Work these two heel flap rows for a total of 32 rows.
TURN HEEL
Sl1, k 18, skp, k1, turn.
Sl1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn.
Sl1, knit to 1 st bef gap, skp, k1, turn.
Sl1wyf, purl to 1 st bef gap, p2tog, p1, turn.
Continue working these two rows until you have 20 sts remaining.

GUSSETS – return to knitting in the rnd.
Sl1, k19, pu&k16 sts along side of heel flap, pu&k2tog in the gap before the instep, pm, knit 32 instep sts, pm, pu&skp2 sts in the gap before the instep, pu&k 16 sts along the other side of heel flap.  End of rnd.  86 sts.

DECREASE GUSSETS
DEC RND – Knit to 2 sts before m, k2tog, sm, knit instep sts, sm, skp, knit to end.
Non – dec rnds: knit.

Continue working these two rows until you have 32 sts on the ‘sole’ side of the foot.  You will need to dec 11 sts from each gusset.

FOOT
Continue rest of foot by knitting every rnd until foot measures about 7.8″ [20 cm] from beginning of heel turn, or about 1.7″ [4.2 cm] shorter than desired length.  Mark the halfway point around your sock before beginning toe.

TOE
DEC RND: K1, skp, knit to 3 sts before side marker, k2tog, k1. Repeat for other half of rnd.
Non-dec rnds:  knit.
Work these two rnds for toe until 24 sts remain.
Graft two sets of 12 sts together using Kitchener stitch.

Block as desired.
