Another Phone Cozy

Another Knitted Cell-phone CozyYes, I know. Another cell-phone cozy. There are all sorts of these around. But aren’t they handy little things to have?

I designed this one so it could be made using several different methods. It’s simple. And, it doesn’t matter what your yarn weight is although if you would like to combine yarn in stripes you probably would like to use comparable yarns.

And you can customize it to your heart’s desire, to fit your phone or other fun gadgets perfectly.

Another Phone CozyThis pattern comes with a built-in calculator so you know how many stitches to cast on without doing any math! All you need to do is measure your phone around, adding about 0.5″ so it’s easy to remove your phone when needed.

Knit to your desired length less about 0.5″ and finish with 1×1 rib. Or start at the top with ribbing, work stockinette to your desired length, bind off and seam or graft the bottom closed. Voila!

Another Cell-Phone CozyIt can be worked in the round or flat.

The Calculator will automatically round up your sts to be an even number (to accommodate ribbing requirements). For all styles/yarns, use needles sized to work well with your chosen yarn.

So, here’s the calculator:

Method 1 – Seamless Bottom-Up

Knit Bottom up in the Round – seamless

Using Turkish Cast-On (such as the one found here) cast on half the number of sts required (each wrap around the needles counts as two sts).

Divide the stitches to knit a tube (knit every round) as for knitting socks. Knit to about 0.5″ less than desired length, change to 1×1 rib and work 0.5″. Bind off in rib.

Method 2 – Bottom-Up

Knit Bottom-Up in the Round – seamed bottom

Using DPNs or circular needles of choice, cast on required number of sts and join to knit in the round, being careful to not twist sts. Mark beginning of round. Knit around until about 0.5″ from top. Finish with 0.5″ of 1×1 rib. Bind off in rib. Press flat and seam bottom.

Method 3 -Top-Down

Knit Top-Down in the Round – seamed or grafted bottom

Using DPNs or circular needles of choice, cast on required number of sts and join to knit in the round, being careful to not twist sts. Mark beginning of round. Begin with 0.5″ of 1×1 rib. Continue to knit every round until desired length. Finish by a) binding off and seaming flat or b) graft bottom closed.

Method 4 -Knitted Flat

Knit Flat – seamed sides and bottom

Using needles of choice, cast on required number of sts. Work in stockinette for desired length less 0.5″. Work 0.5″ of 1×1 rib. Bind off in rib. Fold in half and seam along side and bottom.

And there you have it. All kinds of fun.
