I recently completed my first ever ‘fisherman’s kep’, knit in Harrisville Shetland, in the style of Fair Isle as can be found in the Shetland Museum.
(Still in need of a tassel).
I joined a knit-along taking place in the Facebook Group dedicated to the keps and cast on. Aside from enjoying the photos by other knitters of their kep creations, I am learning much about the traditions of Fair Isle knitting (vs. fair isle knitting). Knitters have joined from all parts of the globe. It’s been great fun (and I will be knitting another, and perhaps, another… they are catchy. :))
Proceeds from the pattern (available only through the Facebook Group), written by Anne Sinclair, go to support The George Waterston Memorial Centre and Museum, Fair Isle.
